1. Protection of Taxpayers' Dollars – please respond by March 2, 2023

How much of a priority should be placed on protecting taxpayers' dollars? If we are granting dollars for “economic development” should the company be vetted? Should an “economic development” grant require an actual application? Why or why not?

I have a degree in finance and an MBA. I am very familiar with budgets. My opponent seems to not understand data driven financial information. Protecting taxpayer dollars should receive the highest priority. With federal, state and local borrowing and taxing at an all time high, we need to drastically stop the growth because we are moving closer to socialism every year.

Yes, companies should be vetted and it should be made public. We need transparency in our government.

Yes, the economic development grant should have an application and that should be made public. The EDC must be held accountable!

2. Density – please respond by March 9, 2023

How do you feel about changing commercially zoned properties to multi-family zoned properties? What if the area already contains many, many apartments such as southeast Arlington in the Hwy 360 corridor? How do you feel about RMU (Regional Mixed Use) zoning and its potential 100 units/acre? Why?

We need to look at zoning changes independently. Each situation is different.  The question is, is the area being developed with a good strategy? What are the limits of the local schools? The SE Arlington Corridor has too many apartments already.  While low cost housing is necessary for Arlington, it should be balanced throughout the city.

I am not 100% against Regional Mixed Use Zoning and open to consider it if it is balanced and serves the needs of the community, not just the developer.  We should not allow this as a loophole for developers to build more apartments where there are too many already.  I do not favor 100 units per acre.  That is way too high.  Traffic is already a problem.  The stress on schools hinders the educators and students.  I believe we should stick to the plan and not allow variances.  The P&Z Committee and the City Council have snuck some of these through hoping no one would notice.  I would publicly shed light on these so that the Council would adhere to the plan and listen to public outcry.  Not too long ago my neighborhood was successful in limiting the variance for increased density on Danube off Cooper.  AISD sent a perfunctory letter of dissent to the City Council but it was the people who stopped it.

3. Transportation – please respond by March 16, 2023

VIA's current funding has taxpayers paying about 60% and federal grants paying 40%. What are your thoughts on how much is coming from the general fund and why?

I bought my first car at age 16 only 2 months after starting to work at Six Flags. I wonder why others can't do this.  Watching empty buses traverse Fort Worth is a terrible waste of taxpayer dollars. Via seems to be working but we need to oversee them carefully.  We also should examine subsidizing Uber/Lyft if Via increases costs. Looking at all alternatives is best. Increasing the riders' share from $3 to $4 would help take the burden off the general fund.

4. Corporate Welfare – please respond by March 23, 2023

The City Council has given away millions of dollars and/or potential revenues to companies to encourage development. At what point has there been enough “encouragement” and the taxpayers-- and lowering tax rates-- should become a higher priority than development? Why?

Watching the City Council choose winners and losers makes me sick. The growth in major cities in Texas shows they are being developed without having to pay for companies to move here. The competition between Fargo ND and Moorhead MN had companies moving back and forth looking for the best government deal. It is not fair to the taxpayers who stay behind and keep paying for the nonsense.

5. Communications – please respond by March 30, 2023

If you receive an e-mail from a constituent similar to the top of this webpage

[ http://arlspectator.mysite.com/rich_text_83.html ], will you respond to the constituent? Why or why not? What actions will you take?

I plan to respond to constituents' letters. I would explain that I was not for the City Council choosing winners and losers. Why should a company like Legal Draft receive help when all others have to compete in the marketplace? I am very against the City Council marking the "losers", as in the smoky hole in the wall bars. I don't like going into a smoky room but the City Council should not get between a legal business and its customers. I look at this as against the Texas Constitution of guaranteeing liberty to all.

6. Issues – please respond by April 6, 2023

Other than public safety what is the most important issue the city council is currently facing? Why? What are your suggestions for addressing this issue?

I believe high property taxes is the major issue in the State of Texas and Arlington. My next door neighbor had to move to Tennessee due to high property tax.  While the school district's portion is much higher than the city's, all recipients of this revenue need to cut their growth. I believe what our State of Texas is doing to restrict the budget growth to inflation and population growth is exactly the right thing to do. I would also advocate that AISD do the same. I am tired of hearing, "It's for the kids!" when our high property taxes has people moving out of Arlington and the state. I believe the Tarrant Appraisal District is poorly run and has elements of corruption.
